CORRECTIONS REGISTER
Corrections & Right of Response
A site that argues a case has to be correctable in public. Here is exactly how to do it, and here is every correction we have issued.

Ridgeburn Press argues against a proposed development. That makes us a party to an argument, and a party to an argument is exactly the kind of publisher whose corrections policy needs to be public, specific and easy to use. This page is that policy, and the register at the bottom is its receipt.
The policy
If we publish something that is wrong, we correct it, we say what was wrong, and we leave the correction where the error was. We do not quietly amend, we do not delete, and we do not correct an error only where nobody noticed it.
Four things follow from that, and they apply to everything on this site — articles, posts, press releases, podcasts and the pages themselves.
- Corrections are published as corrections. A corrected item is marked as corrected and dated, and a separate dated article tagged Correction records what changed.
- The original error is described. Not just the new text — what we had said, and why it was wrong.
- A wrong classification is an error. If we have labelled an analysis as a primary document, or an applicant claim as an established fact, that is a correction like any other. The definitions are at How We Classify Evidence.
- We correct against us as readily as for us. A correction that weakens our argument is published on the same terms as one that strengthens it.
Who the right of response applies to
There is a standing right of reply on this site. It does not have to be requested in advance, it does not expire, and it belongs to:
- Ridgeburn Limited — on anything we publish about the application, the company, or its filings.
- Morven Ferry Limited — on the same terms.
- Queenstown Lakes District Council — as an organisation, and its officers in their official capacity.
- Any councillor, on anything published about them.
- Any Minister or government agency referred to on this site in an official capacity.
- Any other named person or body — including any consultant, expert or organisation whose work we describe or criticise.
- Any reader, on a question of fact. You do not have to be the subject of an item to tell us it is wrong.
How to request a correction
Tell us four things. The more precise they are, the faster this goes.
- Where. The page or article, and the passage.
- What. The specific statement you say is wrong — quoted, so there is no ambiguity about what is in dispute.
- Why. What the correct position is, and any document that shows it. A document reference moves this much faster than an assertion.
- Who. Your name and capacity, and whether you are exercising a right of reply on behalf of a named person or body. We will publish the response and the capacity in which it was given.
Send it through the contact form at Have Your Say. A direct email address and postal address for the press office — [Awaiting client evidence]
What we publish, unedited
A response given under the right of reply is published in full and unedited. We do not trim it for length, we do not rebut it inside it, and we do not paraphrase it. If we disagree with it, our disagreement is published separately and clearly marked as ours.
The three limits on that, stated in advance so they cannot be applied selectively:
- We will not publish material that is itself defamatory of a third party.
- We will not publish personal information about private individuals that is not already properly in the public record.
- We will not publish material we are legally prevented from publishing.
If any of those applies, we say that a response was received and could not be published in full, and why. Silence is not one of the options.
Timeframes
- Acknowledgement: within two working days of receipt.
- Clear factual error: corrected as soon as it is verified, and in any case within five working days.
- Right of reply: published within five working days of receiving a response that meets the limits above.
- Contested or complex matters: we say so within five working days, give a date, and in the meantime add a note to the item recording that it is under challenge.
- Urgent matters — anything alleging serious harm to a named person — are dealt with immediately, and the item comes down while it is checked rather than staying up while we argue.
The register
No corrections have been issued. When one is, it appears here and as a dated article tagged Correction.
That is the honest state of this register on the date shown above, and we would rather publish an empty one than a decorative one. An empty register is not a claim to be right; it is a statement that nothing has yet been corrected. As entries are added, each will record the date, the item, what was wrong, what it now says, and who raised it.
We also publish the reverse. Where a right of reply has been exercised and no correction was required, the response is published and recorded here too, so that the register shows challenges as well as errors.
